RE: Just So You Know
Dear Boys -
This month has been pretty uneventful unless you count the presidential election that took place last week. You took part in the electoral process when you accompanied me to cast my vote, although you were more concerned with racing Lightning McQueen in the voting booth than you were the electoral process.
Barack Obama and Joe Biden were elected.
Dear Stevie – You love Kindergarten. You were taken to the Principal’s office last week because your journal for that day impressed Mrs. F. so much that she wanted you to share it with the principal. Mrs. S. gave you a “Star Student” pencil and a sticker sheet. Your journal was a picture of you in your Halloween costume and it said, “This is me in my Halloween Costume and I can’t wait to carve a pumpkin.” The words were mostly spelled correctly because you looked around your classroom to find the words that you wanted to use on the walls. Mommy was very proud of you. You received your first report card and you received all “S”s and a very nice comment from your teacher about being polite and pleasant. Thankfully, there was not one comment about ‘talking too much’. Clearly, you are more like your dad than your talkative big mouth mama.
This month you have asked about an allowance and playing basketball. The allowance question followed an episode of Curious George where he gets an allowance to buy a boat. The basketball thing came about after talking with some boys in your class who had signed up to play.
It seems that peer pressure is alive and well within the Kindergarten population.
Daddy and I discussed the allowance request and we now give you a weekly allowance of $1.00 per week with the stipulation that you must tithe 10% and save 10%. At that rate, you will have a nice little chunk of change by December, 2013. I would suggest that you consult with daddy often about your finances. The whole math/budget/accounting thing eludes mommy, so I hate to admit I would not be much help in that arena. You would probably find yourself in need of a bailout if your financial success depended on advice from your mama.
Your basketball season starts this month. Your team -The Lakers – have practiced twice and you seem very excited about your basketball career. I apologize in advance for any embarrassment I bring to your life from the stands of the SHS gym.
You sang “Slow Fade” by Casting Crowns for Youth Service at our church this month. You never hesitate when asked to participate and share your talents for Jesus.
You are such a joy and I’m glad you’re mine.
Love, Mommy
Dear Alex -
You celebrated your third birthday this month. It doesn’t seem possible that the 10 pound baby boy I held in the hospital is now 40 pounds and three years old. It makes me sad to think that you are growing up so quickly.
You had a Mickey Mouse birthday party and your favorite gift came from The Millers. “The King” has been attached to your hand since you received it. Here you are playing with it at your birthday party. (The blue one is King). The folks at Disney sure know how to reach the three year old market.
You have really good manners for a three year old and you give the best hugs on the planet. Your vocabulary consists of words like “intrupting” and “ignoring”. I suppose that might be because you hear them often.
You dressed as a “squarecrow” for Halloween which was actually last month. Two weeks later, you are still talking about the experience and asking when you get to ‘twick or treat’ again. You would not allow the application of black dots to your nose, but you looked cute just the same.
You and your “brudder” spend countless hours playing “Mountain” which is really nothing more than a thick blanket thrown on the floor to resemble a mountain for your Thomas trains and CARS population to offroad on. That makes daddy proud. =)
It is a joy to watch you grow and mature. I love you sweet boy.
Thanks for being you!!!
Love, Mommy

What a great idea! Your boys are adorable.
Writing a letter to your boys is a fantastic idea. I may need to steal it!! What a great memory for them to read later on and for you to remember. Happy Tuesday.
Thanks for visiting my blog recently. It was a treat to read your monthly feature on your boys. This is no doubt a gift to the both of them. You have a lovely blog. Thanks for sharing.
