Clearing My Head And A Giveaway

in Reviews and Giveaways

The winner of the Lonaberger Autumn Path Front Pocket Tote is Michelle who does not have a blog, but has a verizon e-mail address. She was lucky Number four who visited my blog and commented on November 25th @ 9:23am.

Congratulations, Michelle. I hope you enjoy the new purse. I will be contacting you by e-mail! You can read about the certified results here.

There are a number of random things rolling around up there in my brain.

Unfortunately for you, there is not much room up there so I have no other choice but to clear out the cobwebs and the useless info to make room for more serious, pressing issues.

Like my birthday.

And Christmas.

And the 412 other things on our calendar for the month of December.

So here goes. (You should imagine me standing here on the screen with a megaphone. Not that I need a megaphone. It’s just that a visual always helps.)

First, I’d like to begin by giving a shout out to the nearly 600 people who have visited my blog since its big reveal (clearly, I watch way too much reality TV) two weeks ago. I say nearly because the little Scope up there in the right hand corner and the live traffic thing in the lower left hand corner don’t always capture the same visitors. Not sure why this is. Maybe it’s hard getting them on the same page, which doesn’t make sense because they are, indeed on the same page.

But seriously, I couldn’t do this thing without you and your support means a lot to me.

Well, actually I could do it without you, but really, that would be pointless.

So, thanks to all of you, my LBF’s. (Loyal Blog Fans)

The rotating Christmas tree stand that I have enjoyed for four years finally gave up the ghost. My Christmas tree is a spectacular sight. It’s even more spectacular when it rotates. It worked beautifully the first few years when it rotated a 7 foot tree. Then, I found a 9 foot Vienna Pine that I simply had to have. McDaddy mentioned one or two or ten times that the new tree was too much for the rotating stand. The thing about McDaddy is that he is rarely wrong when it comes to assessing domestic matters.

Whatever.

Turns out the popping and cracking of the stand were battle cries.

And the war was lost.

RIP little Christmas tree stand. We’ve been through a lot and I will miss you.

And replace you if I can find another one. Ahem!

___

My aunt is visiting from California and I will be hosting Thanksgiving here at the McResidence. At least eleven of us. Maybe more. My family and McDaddy’s family. Yes, you heard right folks. Both sides of the family in one room.

We are blessed that our parents get along and enjoy each other’s company.

YAY! For us.

Hosting the dinner here ensures that we will not have to run from house to house to visit parents, grandparents and inlaws. I plan to bust out our fine china because I am a firm believer that if you don’t use it, you are really not enjoying it.

Yes, I am plum full of quirks my friends.

My china looks like this.

Unfortunately while locating this picture (remember I like visuals), I discovered that my china is now discontinued.

I will also make this dessert because we love it around here.

I must admit though that my chocolate delight usually looks nothing like this chocolate delight because I never think to use my fancy glass compote thing that you see here, opting for the handy 9X13 Longaberger baking dish. On top of that, I generally get overly excited and cause the mixture to look more like mud. You can find the recipe here.

Finally, I have some really exciting news.

It’s my first give-away.

Up for grabs is this Longaberger Autumn Path Front Pocket Tote.

WOW! That’s a mouth full. Or a hand full if you’re typing it like me. I happen to be a Longaberger Home Consultant and since I’m too stingy to part with one of my beloved baskets, I thought I’d give this away instead.

You can win it by simply leaving a comment on this post telling me why you need a new handbag.

Comments will remain open until noon on Saturday when my new friend, Random Dot Org will pick a winner. Contest is open to US Residents (sorry International LBF’s) and I am requesting that you enter only once. The winner will be announced at the top of this post.

Carry On.

(A big thanks to Scribbit for plugging the give-away over at her place).

I need and new handbag because my poor wife does not have many purses at all. I know this because whenever she buys a new one she always promises to carry it forever. She really looks funny carrying 437 purses. If I win this I will surprise her with it for Christmas so don’t let the cat out of the bag. :-)

I need a new handbag like a hole in the head. Just ask my LH~! But….I really like it. Not as well as my Vera Bradley backpack (leaves 2 hands free for holding onto kids), but it would be nice for that rare occasion that I go out without KandA in tow.

3 Cathy Davis November 25, 2008 at 8:42 am

I’m like Becky on the “need a new handbag like a hole in my head.” I don’t think you can ever have too many holes in your head – can you?

4 Michele November 25, 2008 at 9:23 am

I need a new handbag, because I have been carrying the same 2-3 over and over for the past 5 years.

5 Kelly Burford November 25, 2008 at 9:49 am

Hi Julie, Well as you know I don’t need a new handbag! I think this would make a great gift for a special teen or lady who may not be having a Christmas. I think we take for granted all we do have & should keep in mind the ones who don’t share that luxury. If I win the handbag it will be donated to a local charity or womens shelter. Merry Christmas

Hi Julie. I know you will think it is disgraceful but I don’t own anything that is Longaberger and this would be a great opportunity to have something Longaberger for someone who is too cheap to buy it for herself.

7 Michelle November 25, 2008 at 1:44 pm

Hello Julie. I am in desperate need of this handbag; not only because I enjoy the feeling of winning but for many other reasons that I will list here:
1. As mentioned above, I love to win, and I think the purse is lovely.
2. My diaper bag has a ripped lining and stinks like a mixture of baby pee and baby powder.
3. I am nice.
4. I work hard, like you, and don’t get a paycheck for it, so this would be like getting rewarded for the fruits of my labor.
5. I think the bag is pretty.
6. Fall is my favorite season, tied with spring, that is.
7. I would look very stylish with that bag.
8. I am the best mom I can be most days.
9. I think you are beautiful. (Yes, this could be considered brown-nosing, but I also think it is true.)
10. I think you are a great mom. (see parenthesis above.)
11. I would keep it neat and clean.
12. I would tell everyone who complimented it where they could get all their Longaberger needs fulfilled.
13. I have the longest comment so far.
14. I read your blog.
15. I love to read your blog.
16. I don’t let my son eat paper. (ok, wierd reason, but I had to stop briefly to get paper out of his mouth.)
17. Purses are a great accessory, and I love them.
18. I don’t have a fabric purse.
19. Someone has to win it, so why not me?
20. I love you. (Again, brown-nosing, but this one is still true no matter what.)
21. I am wishing you an early happy birthday.
22. Your boys are wonderful, smart, and a joy to be around. (This is the way to any mother’s heart.)
23. I really want it.
24. I am a responsible driver.
25. A girl can never have too many bags.

This is all I’ve got now, but I’ll get back to you later if I think of any more.
Love, Michelle

I need a new bag b/c I just don’t think my old can hold anymore stuff.

9 Leslee November 25, 2008 at 2:45 pm

I need a new handbag because, much to my husband’s chagrin, I never REALLY can have enough new handbags.

And if you’d like to throw in the super-precious wrought iron bread basket that I’ve had my eye on, you are certainly at liberty to do that! :0)

Well, I could really use this handbag because for some reason I still think I’m a kid and have to stuff all the “stuff” that I need into these little purses that I keep buying. And with four kids, I have a lot of “stuff”. Also, the cost of living is very expensive here and we don’t have a lot of money for “extras”, especially LONGABERGER!! And not to mention the fact that I cleaned up after you when you puked in our room on our sixth grade trip!:)

11 Tanna November 25, 2008 at 4:16 pm

Hey Julie, I unlike some of the other (not mentiioning any holes in the head) really do need a new purse. I carried the same one for about three years, when I finally got up the courage, yes I said courage, to get a new one. After carrying it for less than a month, the handle broke off in front of Kohls. My kinda luck. So, seeing that Longaberger purses are of good quality. I think I need one to show me the error of my ways in never purchasing anything Longaberger before.

12 Richie November 25, 2008 at 6:29 pm

I need a new bag because the one I have has this crunchy liner in it so everytime you are looking for something it sounds like I’m wadding up candy wrappers. Also, the crunchy liner has a hole so things keep falling under the liner to the bottom of the purse and I’m forever searching for stuff all the while making a ton of noise.

13 Teresa November 26, 2008 at 12:38 am

Oh Julie! I adore that bag! I’d love to have it! I promise to take very good care of it and give out your blog site to everyone who asks about my cute new bag! I deserve it because this week our septic had “issues” and my mini-van broke down on the way to a movie! Come on! Pick me! Pick me! Oh, and I love your blog and I think you are so funny and I like how you write!

14 Janelle November 26, 2008 at 8:39 am

I need a new handbag because the other day I noticed that the strap on my current one is coming apart and is down to only a few strings. The budget right now doesn’t allow for a handbag purchase, and my sewing skills just aren’t that great, so I gotta figure out something!! :-)

Thanks for the chance to win, and I’m enjoying your blog very much!!

15 Cheri November 26, 2008 at 10:25 am

I need a new handbag because I have never had one like that. Mine is 3 years old & I would love to have a new one.

16 Someone's M-I-L November 26, 2008 at 10:48 am

Julie – this is why I need a new handbag:
1. It is perfect for me — size; color; style
2. I love it!
3. Even though I would LOVE to keep it, I would give it as a Christmas gift — and buy 5 more from you to give as gifts, also; which actually, I will do anyway, even if I don’t win this one.
4. I love the quilted fabric! Soft; washable; light-weight.
5. I’m your favorite M-I-L. :)
6. You are my favorite eldest D-I-L. :) (Hi Michelle! You are my favorite middle D-I-L! :) ) (And last, but not least, Stephanie! You are my favorite youngest D-I-L! :) ) I love you gals!! :) :) :)
7. I love bags of all sorts — handbags, carry-on bags, all types of luggage — but not just ANY. They have to reach out and grab me — and this one does just that!
8. I am donating at least 2 of my presently-owned handbags to Sojourners this season.
9. I love reading your blogs — and their comments.
10. I’m so proud of you for diligently and relentlessly getting FIT!!! Go Julie!!!
11. You are truly some kind of Princess!!
I could go on and on, but you get my point. I rest my case. :)

17 Beth November 26, 2008 at 11:00 am

I love that purse! My mom has one and I can’t seem to convince her to give it to me. She actually bought it at a garage sale – can you believe it – brand new! A real nice guy who works at Longaberger bought it for his wife, only to find out she already had one. Anyway, I need one so I can match mom!

And I’m wondering, exactly how does that spinning tree work? I keep picturing the lights plugged into the wall and the cord getting tighter and tighter as the tree spins until it finally unplugs itself. I’d love for my tree to spin so we could see all the ornaments. We cover ours in ornaments that we’ve collected over the years and most of them bring back some sort of memory. It’s no Martha Stewart tree, but very special to all of us.

18 Hannah November 26, 2008 at 11:20 am

I would really like this handbag because i am cheap and do not buy handbags except replacing one when it dies. I am starting to learn how to be a fashionable adult however with the help of my friend Robin and have learned i should have handbags and switch them out. I have recently started doing this but my two teenager daughters borrow (steal) all my purses and handbags. I would really enjoy having this purse and would hide it from my daughters and walk through the house, yelling…mine, mine, mine. you cannot have it.

Please pick me to win!

19 Tasha Snow November 26, 2008 at 11:47 am

All I have is diaper bags. I would love to have a nice handbag meant just for me!

20 Ann November 26, 2008 at 2:00 pm

Need is a strong word….but I would love to win this purse. I love to give people gifts. I love to make someone’s day with a hand written note or a genuine compliment. Honestly, I would love to keep this purse if I won but I can think of numerous people who have never been given anything without strings attached. If I win this purse I will give to to a new “friend” that I would love to see smile.

21 Linda Stewart November 26, 2008 at 2:08 pm

I haven’t had a new handbag in about 4 years. I went from my last new bag to a diaper bag then back to an old bag. I wouldn’t know what to do with a new one! I’d be ecstatic!

22 Carolyn S November 28, 2008 at 10:22 pm

I would love this, I need it because I do not have a really nice purse, I have been using the same one forever.

thanks for sharing

I need a new one because I honestly can’t remember how long ago it was that I got my current one. I know most people probably think that’s nuts- to only have ONE. *shrug* I’m too busy buying my kids things than to buy things for myself.

http://www.replacements.com – I think that is the website you can get more of your china pattern if you need/want more . . . .
