My bloggy friend, Boo Mama (actually, I’ve never met her, but if I did meet her, I’m sure we’d be fast friends because we both have boys named Alex and we both love Mexican food) does a weekly re-cap of American Idol so I thought I’d play along this week. Let’s just face it, I am always ready to offer my opinion. Especially on the subject of American Idol.
I am coming to you live from my big, blue, bloggy chair while watching these cats sing their way to stardom.
Country music sounds like a great theme to me because after all, I am sitting smack dab in the middle of West Virginia and its hills. It don’t get much more country than this folks.
MICHAEL SARVER – Ain’t Going Down - Great song choice. The guy on the step is straight-up jammin’ on the harmonica. Great job on allthosewords. Breathe, baby breathe. In the words of Randy Jackson. I think that was hot! – Let’s see what the judges have to say. Randy and Kara were not impressed. Paula likes it. Simon says it was a bit clumsy. I think he rocked that song.
ALLISON IRAHETA – Blame It On Your Heart – She sounds okay, but I’m not too impressed and quite frankly the hair is enough to distract me from her voice or the song. – Judges, what say you? Kara and Paula liked it. Simon liked it too. Wow! I’m a bit surprised. Randy calls it DOPE. I’m not in agreement, dawg. Not even close.
KRIS ALLEN – To Make You Feel My Love - Another of my favorites and such a cutie patootie. He did a beautiful job on that ballad. Very talented. – Let’s hear it. Paula is pleasantly surprised and is stumbling all over herself, as usual. Simon utters the word, terrific. Yessir, I would have to agree. Randy and Kara are also impressed. GO KRIS!
LIL ROUNDS – Independance Day - First of all, I lurve the pink dress. She’s taking on Martina McBride. Beautiful voice. Beautiful job. Let’s hear it for Lil Mama. – And now, the peanut gallery – Randy, ah, notsomuch. Why do they always use the word relevant? Kara gives her props. Paula loves all of it. Simon can’t pronounce her name and doesn’t like the performance. Simon, you make me smile.
ADAM LAMBERT - Ring of Fire - Oh shoot, he’s singing one of Stevie’s favorite songs. It’s too bad he has all that going on around his face. It’s all a little much for me. And so is his performance. He’s definately putting his own spin on the song. I’m just not sure what kind of spin it is. My sweet Stevie is smiling from ear to ear and says, “I like the usual version of it better” and “I like the back of his shirt too.” I’m thinking it all a bit strange. Just burn me already. Put me out of my ever-lovin-misery. – Judges, let’s have it – Randy says its current, fresh and hot. Kara uses the word strange, Paula is mumbling something about quick study and Simon goes so far as to say it is absolute, indulgent, rubbish. I’d have to agree, Simey.
SCOTT MACINTYRE – Wild Angels - Another Martina McBride tune. I am so rooting for Scott. His mama must be so proud. He’s at the piano and he is so talented. I’m not sure he has what it will take to stay the course, but time will tell. – Paula says the piano is a crutch. I disagree. Simon says Paula said something stupid [duh!], Simon criticizes the song choice and then he and Paula engage in another love spat. Randy calls it nice & good. Kara mentions the words, class and poise.
Did I mention that I LOVE this show?
ALEXIS GRACE – Jolene – What is with the red streak already? I’ve never heard the song about Jolene. It seems a bit boring to me. I would love to hear her sing something like, Where Would You Be? or This Kiss. This is where I would throw in the words, bad. song. choice. – The judges are not so impressed, but Paula mentions something about artistic approach. Simon calls it forgettable.
DANNY GOKEY – Jesus Take The Wheel - My pick of the entire group. I LOVE IT! THAT MUCH! Sing it big boy! He delivered in a big way. Oh DVR I will be rolling you back. Simply phenominal. - And the judges say…. Kara loves it. Paula, spit it out. Finally, she says he is brilliant. Simon comments more about the jacket. [I love the jacket by the way] Randy likes it.
Move over Michael Phelps, I think I just found me a new boyfriend. (Ahem!)
ANOOP DESAI – You Were Always On My Mind - well this should be interesting. OH! MY! MERCY! I’m pleasantly surprised. I think he just may have redeemed himself. I love it, I love it, I love it. - Judges are smiling – Simon says he went from zero to hero and calls it one of his favorite performances and takes his words from last week back. Good job, Noop Dawg. Randy says the arrangement was dope (that’s twice in one night) and Kara uses McDaddy’s favorite word, Amazing.
MEGAN JOY – Walkin’ After Midnight – I guess she is dropping her last name.First, let me just say that I think Megan is a beautiful girl [even with that sparkley eye-shadow] and her dress is adorable. The tattoos, um, notsomuch. She sounds a little like Amy Winehouse to me. What is that little shimey thing she does? Grab the microphone, Meg, you need to occupy your hands. I think she did an okay job. - The judges are all smiling again. Randy and Kara like it. Paula likes it. Simon says she looks gorgeous. [and she does!]
MATT GIRAUD – So Small – He’s at the piano and he seems comfortable there. On a sidenote, he really does look a lot like Justin Timberlake. Sweet hallelujah. I like it. I really like it. Great song choice. I may even download this song. YAY!!! I’m standing up and clapping. – And now, the judges respond – Kara likes it. Paula stumbles over authenticity [and so much more] Simon says Matt hasn’t gotten enough credit and says he outsang Danny. Randy says he has mad skills and ‘you got it going on’.
What a great night!!!
My picks are Matt, Anoop, Danny and Kris.
Going home is either Scott or Allison.
What did ya’ll think?

Stopping over from Boo Mama’s!
I loved this- “What is that little shimey thing she does? Grab the microphone, Meg, you need to occupy your hands.” … And, oh my holy guacamole, I do certainly agree. That girl makes me nervous when she performs, acting like she’s about to throw a hip out or something. And, the jazz hands … oh my lawdy, the jazz hands!
Johnny Cash is rolling over in his grave! That guy butchered Ring of Fire. I hated it. I hope he gets the boot! Right in his arse!
HI! Stopped over from BooMama’s. Great recap. Megan gets on my nerves with her “dancing” and Adam should go home, but I think Michael goes tonight.
I’m with you- I think Anoop, Matt, Danny, and Kris would make the perfect Final Four! And I’m glad I’m not the only one who sometimes wonders why what the judges heard was so much better than what I heard.
I was an Adam fan at first, but each week it gets more and more theatrical (as if that’s even possible for him). I do wish he’d lay off ALL THE MAKEUP.
I missed it – thanks for the re-cap!
