A Random Act Of Kindness

in Works For Me Wednesday

This weeks’ Works For Me Wednesday’s post is very special to me. If you’ve spent any time around the hallowed halls of Inmates, you probably already know that my dear, sweet hubby is deployed. We’re about one third of the way through the six months of misery and everyday presents new challenges, both mentally and emotionally.

I’d be lying if I said it was easy.

We have a lot to be thankful for and I know that. I’m thankful for the web-cam. I’m thankful that McDaddy can call us everyday and I’m thankful that even though he is out of the country, it may be possible for us to visit him.

I’m also thankful for all of the prayers, cards, and encouraging words I’ve received over the past eight weeks.

This past weekend, I made the daily trip to my mailbox expecting to find bills, an Oriental Trading catalog (why do they send a catalog every other day?) and perhaps another friggin’ credit card transfer offer (I hate those things!). Instead though, there was a package for me, from a sweet bloggy friend that I have never met, Allison from A Slice Of Heaven.

I opened the box to discover a sweet message from Allison that included the words “pick-me up during this difficult deployment.”

Oh! My! Word! Internets!

I started to cry. I smiled through the tears when I saw all of the Dr. Pepper stuff looking up at me. In case you can’t see the picture, there are Dr. Pepper playing cards, Dr. Pepper lip gloss, a magnet, a mouse pad and a candy jar full of ‘candy poppers.’

Words cannot express how special I felt. Just knowing that someone I have never met “thinks of me constantly” is such a sweet feeling. And not only is she just thinking of me, she went to the trouble of purchasing a “little package” full of products from the Dr. Pepper Museum which just so happens to be my favorite beverage.

Allison’s random act of kindness has blessed me tremendously.

I want to repay Allison for her kind gift. Because of that, I plan to practice some random acts of kindess and I’d love for you to join me.

A random act of kindness can be something as simple as giving up your place in the grocery store line or filling a box full of goodies and sending it to someone you have never met.

If you’d like to perform a random act of kindness this week, you could try one of these….

— Give up your place in line at a fast food restaurant just because.

— In the drive-through, pay for the order of the car behind you.

— Send someone a card to let them know you are thinking of them.

— When God brings someone to your mind, pray for them, right then and there.

— Be kind to a telemarketer. (ahem!)

— The next time you go to the grocery store, call someone who doesn’t drive and ask if they’d like to go.

— Fix a yummy dessert and take it to your neighbor.

— Send someone flowers to let them know you appreciate them.

— Write a hand-written letter to your grandparents.

— Take donuts into the office at your child’s school.

Allison (my Dr. Pepper twin), you made my week and I appreciate you thinking of me. Your box of goodies made me smile in the midst of a really bad week. And that WORKS FOR ME! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Ahhhh, that was a sweet post. Again, I am so glad it brought some joy to your day. Those words of encouragement I sent were very true…I do think of you and your family constantly. The smile on your face was the whole purpose of the package. I hope you enjoy everything!

The last time I took a yummy dessert to a neighbor he hit on me. Jules, that doesn’t Work for Me. LOL! I will try to spread the cheer this week. Thanks for the swell (amazing) idea.

What a wonderful surprise. I love our ideas for random acts of kindness. We often forget that it’s the little things that make the world a better place. I hope you have a great day today :)

What a lovely thing to do for someone else!

My husband was deployed for six months overseas, so I know how much things like that mean. Thanks for the reminder to Pay it Forward.

I agree with you that Allison is absolutely the sweetest chick in blogland. I just love her to pieces. And I’m so happy that she did this random act for you. You totally deserve it.
