Thursday Thirteen – Q-tips, Questions and Quirks

June 3, 2009

in Thursday Thirteen

It’s that time again.

Thursday Thirteen.

I’m afraid we might have to call this one Thursday Three.

Because seriously, have you ever thought about the letter “Q?”

If I was the letter “Q,” I would scream discrimination.

Or Letterism.

It’s just not fair that the letter “Q’ didn’t get many words for its alphabetic repertoire.

At any rate, I’ll do my best to come up with thirteen.

1. Queen – This one seemed like a no-brainer. Although I call myself the Princess, my age suggests that by now, I should probably promote myself to queen.

2. Q-Tips – A few months back, I began having trouble with my right ear. It began to hurt and within days my top-back-ear (did you get all that?) got real red (yes, I really talk like that) and it started to hurt. A few days later, I could not lay on my right side because my ear was so sore. Around that same time, my inner ear (and I mean way back in there) started to itch. As it turns out, I had an infection that resulted in two rounds of antibiotics and had dry skin on the inside of my ear. When I mentioned to the ENT Doc that I used a q-tip daily to scratch the itch in my way-back-there-inner-ear, he shuddered and made me promise that I would never-ever-use-a-qtip-again-as-long-as-we-both-did-live-so-help-me-God. I had used q-tips for at least 30 years and couldn’t understand why he was asking begging pleading with me to never use them again. His comment? “You should never stick anything smaller than your finger in your ear.” Oh, and he was quite confident that ramming the q-tip  in my way-back-there-inner-ear probably caused the Great Ear Infection Disaster of 2008.

[Side note: I still have to use a prescription ear cream about once a week in my right ear because of dry skin.] My method of getting it way-back-there-in-my-inner-ear?

Q-tips.

3. Quiet – is overrated. I choose noise. Mkay? Thanks.

4. Quadruplets - A gal from our lovely, little church is pregnant with quadruplets. I am praying for four, healthy babies. On June 20th, she will find out how many of each she is having. I’m happy for her. Really happy for her. And really, really happy that its her and not me.

5. Quirks – I haul a truck-load around with me every. single. day.

6. Quarrel – One of the thousands of things I miss about McDaddy being deployed. I have no one to quarrel with except a three year old and a six year old. That gets boring.

Oh, but, when I was small, I loved quarreling with these two fellers. Meet Jim and Tim – my twin brothers.

7. Question – Oh me, me, me. I have one. Pick me. Um, what is the big deal about starbucks? Before I would spend $4.00 and 7,412 calories on a cup-o-mocha-frappacino-caramel-espresso-latte, I would buy a  dozen doughnuts and an ice-cold Dr. Pepper. But that’s just me.

8. Quilt – This quilt was made by my great-grandmother and hangs in my loft. After a quilting lesson at a ladies retreat, I now realize that quilting is a lot harder than it looks.

9. Quote – My favorite quote says, “To the world, you may be one person, but to one person you are the world!” After motherhood, I can say this is so true.

10. Quarter -Two guys at our church, give Stevie and Alex a quarter at each church service and they have done that since they have been able to shake hands. Stevie’s “bottle bank” is just about filled. McDaddy has always said that Randy and Bobby would be paying for Stevie’s first car.

11. Quaker Steak and Lube – Stevie loves quaker steak and lube because of all of the cars hanging from the ceiling. We don’t go there often.

12. Quit – Things I’ve quit… birth control (twice), my Master’s Program, getting enough sleep and exercizing like I should.

13. Quaint - I live in a quaint little town. I can be at the library, grocery store, pharmacy, the elementary, junior and high school, chinese restaurant, post office, family dollar, video store, fire department or gas station in less than two minutes.

Yay!

I did it! (With Michelle’s help!)

That was easier than I thought.

I’m still taking suggestions for Thursday Thirteens for after we make our way through the alphabet.

Oh, and tomorrow is the last day of school in these parts.

Can you say sleep in?

Okay – I liked the Q list – it was fun! There is a Quaker Steak and Lube (kinda) near work – I have not been yet, but I’ve heard the food is pretty good and the interior decor is even better. :) Now I sort of want to go see all the car stuff.

Dude – they have a chinese restaurant in Sissonville?!?
;)

You came up with a good list. I’ve never heard of Quaker Steak and Lube, but I get the idea and understand why a boy would like to eat there.

13 things with chocolate in them
13 favorite places to camp
13 favorite things to do with my husband (besides that)

I have a million of them

13 Countries you’ve visited – you probably really have!
13 Vehicles you’ve owned – McDaddy & Stevie can help you with this one. :)

Oh, don’t quit – especially the exercise. I need to start back badly myself. Let’s lose 5 pounds each by …….say……..August 1. Deal? Say “Yes.” I need encouragement. (Is that spelled correctly? It looks funny.)

That pic of your loft makes your house look like a doll house. Cute! ;-)

Hey! I’m not the only one to make a doll house comment about your home. Cool! ;)

I’m impressed with your list! And I’m impressed with #10, too–my 6 year old’s pockets smoke as soon as he gets any money. Burns a hole right through in no time. I have taken to stopping his spending, because he WILL buy a little overpriced gum ball when he has a bag of Easter candy waiting for him at home. No willpower. (Which is why I dole out the Easter candy…still…because this kid will blow through it all in one sitting and did I ever mention that he gets wound up just by BREATHING?!?!)

And #7? I’m totally on board with you there! Except I’d have to make mine Diet Coke. ;)
