Thursday Thirteen – Firsts
I was sitting in my van in the pick-up lane the other day trying to decide what to do for this week’s edition of Thursday Thirteen.
It dawned on my how easy Thursday Thirteen was when I was making my way through the alphabet. I’d love to do that every week. Or have someone direct me every week with a TT topic. Sometimes its just not easy to come up with thirteen of something.
I thought about making my way through the colors.
I started with white and had four items on the list after two days.
I scratched that and thought about it some more.
So, here we go with Thirteen Firsts.
1. My First Teacher- My Kindergarten teacher was Mrs. Richardson. She was a soft-spoken woman with glasses and a tender heart. I loved kindergarten and I remember that Mrs. Richardson treated each child with a snow-ball cake on their birthday. That would never be allowed today. They’d have to give a rice cake or pretzel thanks to wellness requirements. Blech.
2. My First Car- It was a black 1981 Buick Regal with maroon interior. I loved that car. My friends nick-named it The Skregal.

3. My First Plane-Ride- I was 14 years old and I flew (with two cousins) to Los Angeles International Airport. We were given a plastic pin that resembled pilot’s wings to wear to indicate that we were all minors. We spent 2 weeks travelling with my aunt and uncle all over California. I was blessed to see San Fransisco, San Diego, Disneyworld, Alcatraz, Hearst Castle, and lots more stuff that I probably can’t remember.
4. My First Church – was a little country Free Will Baptist Church. We sat in the fourth pew from the back on the right hand side. The church bell was rang by pulling a wooden stick-like thing right in the door-way of our church. It was a sweet little church that taught the love of Jesus to me at an early age. I often think about all of those who were committed to the twenty something children at our sweet little church. I am thankful for them!
5. My first date – was in the 7th grade. It was actually a group date to a movie with a red-headed kid who I am still friends with to this day. I have no idea what movie we saw, but knowing me, I wrote it down somewhere in one of my many diaries and if I was guessin’ I would say its probably up in the loft in a foot-locker signed, dated and certified. Because that’s how I rolled back then. And still do. I write everything down.
6. My First Friend- lived four houses down the road from me. We shared clothes, dreams, memories, laughs, cries, and hair accessories. We are still friends and thanks to Facebook we talk often.
7. My First Pet – was a black cat named Prissy. She was a timid cat and she was able to meow. mew. quite. She was not very nice and didn’t really like kids because we aggravated the snot out of her.
8. My First Broken Bone – Thankfully I’ve never broken a bone. I did however have broken jaws when I was a senior in high school. This was the day after surgery. I was swollen and my chin was bruised pretty badly. The surgery corrected an overbite and gave me a beautiful smile. Thankfully, once the wires were cut, I resumed talking as if my jaws had never been negotiated.

9. My First House- that McDaddy and I lived in was in Flatwoods, Kentucky. It was a cute little townhouse on a wonderful street. Our address was 1907 Hamor Street #6 and our phone number was 606-836-8365. I will never forget it. (Ours was the one in the middle with the wreath!)
10. My First Pregnancy- was such a neat experience. There was the issue of 18 weeks of vomiting, eight weeks of bed-rest and bi-weekly non-stress tests, but other than that, it was a normal pregnancy. I’d do it all over again though because my sweet Stevie was worth it. My second pregnancy wasn’t much different, but I’d do that one again, too!
11. My First Born – had a lot of patience with me. I was a new mother who questioned herself daily. I did a lot of things wrong but I sure tried to do my best. Of everything I had fouled up in my life, I wanted to do this right! THE girl in that picture knew nothing of raising babies. The hospital let me take that little angel home without checking our credentials. I am so thankful to be a mommy!

12. My First Blog Post- Before starting From Inmates To Playdates, I blogged occasionally on MySpace. My blog over there was called “A Piece Of My Mind.” My first post was about Stevie and Alex. I didn’t know it then, but that blog post started me on a path that led me right here to ‘From Inmates To Playdates!’ I enjoy sharing my crazy with you! My first blog post here at Inmates was written on November 8, 2008. That means that my bloggy anniversary is coming up on Sunday AND THAT MEANS FUN!!! If you’re interested in reading that first post, entitled A Hearty Welcome you can go over there and check it out!
13. My First Ride in a beloved Saturn Sky – *SIGH* – What a great day this was. It’s a day I will never forget….

Tune in next week for a week of fun, celebration and give-aways!!!

You dated someone besides me??!!
