You Capture – Your Choice
I’m not fond of being left to my own devices on You Capture day.
Because if I know those gals who participate, they will go all out with some artsy-fartsy photos of really cool stuff and I’ll be lookin’ like a *joner with a various assortment of subpar photographs.
[*Joner is a word I use for someone (usually me!) who doesn't have it all together.]
I really hope subpar is a word.
I have a knack for making up words and swearing that I’ve heard them before. Well, not swearing in a literal sense, but you get my drift. Anyhow, maybe if I get the urge I’ll make a stop at Google Ave to research the whole sub-par thing. Shoot, I might erase the whole sentence if I can’t find the word over there.
Anyhow, I’ll show you what I came up with this week.
This looks like a picture of McDaddy holding a box.
And, I guess in reality it is.
But it is a special box that contained a special surprise for me inside.
This, my friends is the BMW of laptop comptuers.
I say that as if I know something about laptop computers.
If I had an ounce of sense about taking pictures I could have eliminated the big bright flash in the middle of the thing. Instead, my shot looks like a picture of a pink Dell computer with a little too much light.
And, I guess this picture proves my geekness.
Or my wannabegeekness. And, my inability to snap an artsy fartsy picture.
As you can see it was a beautiful fall day on Saturday. It certainly was a happy day. We celebrated a birthday party complete with a pinata.
Between Halloween and the birthday pinata, my fellas are hyped up on all manner of sugar and whathaveyou. Oh, and since you’re wondering about Halloween around here…..look at these superheroes! Don’t you just love them?
And speaking of love…
Don’t you love a smooth transition?
Look what me and McDaddy are doing.
Our Sunday School class is doing the Love Dare. We are on Day 14.
Day 14 says “Purposefully neglect an activity you would normally do so you can spend quality time with your spouse. Do something he or she would love to do or a project they’d really like to work on. Just be together.
It makes you take inventory of your motives and your thoughts. It is a 40-day study. It might be a long 40 days.
But McDaddy is worth it!

I rarely do “artsy” photos. My You Capture photos are the artsy-est thing I’ve done (probably ever) and I probably won’t do much like it again! I love your “life” photos. They tell who you are.

I don’t want to get all ‘teacherly’ on you or anything, but if you are wondering how to avoid flashes on glossy surfaces, it has to do with the angle of the light. The basic rule of thumb is that you want to position the light so it doesn’t reflect back at the camera. Or have a light big and diffuse enough (like sunlight through a window, for example) that it diffuses the reflection. But in the case of the laptop screen, since the sunlight is directly behind you (instead of at an angle), the screen acts like a mirror. To get the screen without the reflection you could try shooting it with the light coming from the side.
I hope that is helpful! I’m still a newbie at this too, but I found a great book that explains it all really well.
