So, last week the judges saved Michael Lynch. Which is surprising to me, not necessarily because he wasn’t worthy of being saved, and not because I don’t like him. I just thought it was very early in the elimination process, and surely they’d hold on to the save for a few more weeks.
Shows you what I know.
As Ryan makes his dramatic descent down the stairs, he reminds us that THIS is American Idol.
The contestants are singing Elvis hits tonight. They’ve brought back Adam Lambert (and his guyliner) as this week’s mentor. The eyeliner is so unnecessary when you have a face like Adam’s. It’s sad to me that he would pile that mess on his face because seriously? He has a nice face. Sadly, no one called about my opinion because I would have strongly advised against the dark eyes, but I’ll shut it and get on with the commenatary.
Crystal Bowersox (Saved) – Crystal performs her heart out each and every week. And not only does she perform, she knocks it out of the park. This week is no exception. I love the bluesy, big band version of this song, although for all I know the original might have sounded like this one because I’ve never heard the song before. Love the heck out of it. As always.
Andrew Garcia (Houndog) – I have liked Andrew since he did the whole ‘Straight Up’ in Hollywood. And if you’re thinking I sound like a broken record, that’s because I am. I know I am. I loved that performance. And in the back of my head, I know he will bring it sometime. Again. And, in my humble opinion, he brought it tonight. I love the vintage microphone and I love, love, love this performance. This was his comeback week. I knew it. I just knew it. Great job!
WHAT?
Randy? You got it wrong tonight, dawg.
Oh. my. word. I don’t get it.
From my perspective, (a SAHM in WV sitting in her big, blue, bloggy chair) I loved it.
Tim Urban (Can’t Help Falling In Love With You) – I like the ballady feel of this song. It is raw and fresh and I like it. Beautiful job.
Kara is falling all over herself with praise about relevant, blah, blah, blah.
‘From zero to hero’ says Simon. Well, I bet his mama never considered him a zero. You can bank on that. And if I was that boy’s mama, I’d let Simon know that. Shame on you, Simon for saying that.
Lee DeWyze (Little Less Conversation) – Lee is my favorite contestant this season. Like Crystal, I think he delivers quality performances every week and y’all know how much I love a raspy voice. Lee does not disappoint and rocks the song. That was freakin’ awesome. Lee, if by some stroke of fate you happen to stumble upon my little blog here, please know that I can’t wait to buy your record.
Aaron Kelly (Blue Suede Shoes) – Aaron prefaces his performance with a disclaimer that the song doesn’t fit him. I would have advised against that whole bit, because who does that? We’ll see. Lands, I thought he forgot some words. As it turns out, he was breaking into some jazz and he rocked that part out. I liked it. I mean really liked it. Great week for him.
Siobhan Mangus (Suspicious Minds) – The jury is out on Siobhan. Some weeks, I’m impressed with her. Other weeks, she seems a bit overrated. This is not an impressive week. The 80′s ankle boots. The hair. The song. The performance (with the exception of the last eight measures) is a bit boring. Oh, and in her defense that final note was pretty impressive too. The last 1/2 was much better than the first.
Michael Lynch (In The Ghetto) – Michael will have a score to settle this week and I suspect he will settle it. I like Michael. I’ve been a fan of his from the beginning. I love that its just him, a guitar, and a piano. Just as I suspected, he brought it. Oh, and for the record, I love that song. Beautiful, heartfelt performance that will surely keep him out of the bottom two this week.
Katie Stevens (Baby, What You Want Me To Do?) – She’s in fine form tonight. I like what she’s doing. The bluesy thing works for her. In fact, it’s her thang. That is all.
Casey James (Lawdy, Miss Clawdy?) – Speaking of cutie patooties. He is one. What? We weren’t talking about cutie patooties? Well, we should have been. Sweet mercy, he has a doll face. And doll face is rockin’ this song. He could record this song tomorrow and it would be a hit. You can always count on Casey for a top-notch performance.
For the FIRST time in a very long time, I enjoyed every performance of the night. And, I even enjoyed Adam being back. He seemed to give very good advice.
Best Performance – This is a hard one. I think I’d have to say Crystal, Andrew, or Michael
Worst Performance – Siobhan
Bottom Two (or is it three?) – Siobhan and Katie?
Going Home – Siobhan
So what’d y’all think?

I love reading your recaps! I had all these great intentions of voting this week so that none of the good ones would go home, but Glee came on and I forgot. I think my top three are Crystal, Lee, and Mike. Not so sure that Andrew is going to make it this week. Everyone wants to like him. I loved Straight up, but he’s never hit that high again. Bummer.
Since two are going to be voted off I would choose Siobhan and Andrew. I liked Andrew in the beginning but now, eh. And Aaron can go next week.
I like Katie more each week. I am hoping the final two are Crystal and Lee.

I love reading your recaps…and if I ever miss a night of AI, I will come here first
I’m rooting for Casey, Crystal, or Lee to win, but wouldn’t be too dissappointed if it were Michael or Tim either. The others need to go, in my opinion. Anyway, love your blog and see ya next week!
